Diabetes and Heart Attack
Introduction
Diabetes and Heart attack are having very strong relationship.
Patients with diabetes have higher chances to develop coronary artery
blockages.
Increased incidence of large vessel arteriosclerosis and heart attack is
seen both type1 and type2 diabetes.
Coronary artery disease is the most common cause of death in diabetic
patients.
The risk of heart attack in diabetes patients depends upon the duration of
the illness.
Patient with diabetes and heart attack are having higher risk for heart failure, shock
and death.
Diabetes patients may not have typical symptoms of heat attack and chest pain
referred as silent heart attack symptoms, due to autonomic nerve dysfunction.
Patients with diabetes usually obese in nature, have high blood
pressure and high blood cholesterol levels, all responsible for blockages
and heart attack.
Heart attack may occur even in younger age groups with severe diabetes.
Insulin resistance is associated with obesity and physical inactivity, also a
potent risk factor for heart attack.
Diabetes patients having heart attack is seen more common in Asian
communities.
