Stroke Symptoms for Women May Differ from Men’s

It is a fact of admission that the stroke symptoms for women vary a little from those of men. This may be due to the awareness to get crucial stroke drug in time following symptoms of stroke. It has been proven that female stroke victims are less likely to report a classic stroke symptom than their male counterparts by 33%. When the women report at the emergency room they are safe and secured against getting clot busting drug.

One of the commonest type of strokes is ischemic that occurs when the blood flow at any region of the brain is compromised by blood clot. This is highly destructive to the brain cells to end up with brain damage. As women show very feeble symptoms of stroke it’s rather hard to presume them as stroke symptoms. For instance, having repeated headaches cannot in general be ascribed for the incidence of stroke waves. Confirmation tests are to be done before making a final view. However, the following can be added in the list for positive consideration.

It has been taken for study: Who are close victims of stroke? – Men or women? Proven results claim that 13% of the females don’t report any of the classic stroke symptoms whereas only 9% of the males fall in this category. However, it has been reported that mini symptoms of stroke in women at the age group 45 to 55 have been more than those associated to men. It will be interesting to be aware of the body condition laid for stroke attack. It is also noteworthy that strokes are usually not as popular as heart attacks though they can threaten anyone at anytime without warning. Here are the stroke symptoms women should know.

Warning signs of stroke in general:

  • Sudden numbness or muscles contraction of the arm or leg, especially on the left side

  • Sudden fumbling in normal speaking or a feeling of tied tongue

  • Sudden drop in vision with gloomy screen

  • Sudden feeling of severe headache with no reason

  • Loss of balance in normal walking

  • Loss of sufficient strength to stand fast

However, women are known to experience the following complaints:

  • Loss of consciousness with fatigue

  • Breathing trouble

  • seizures like fits or spasm

American Stroke Association has strong evidence that the number of sufferers and deaths are at higher range for women than for men during the past 5 years.

Fainting is a very common complaint:

Researchers have gone through numerous evidences to arrive at an ultimate finding that fainting is a possible symptom leading to stroke. Women who have acquired mild attack of stroke are likely to feel loss of consciousness (fainting) or troubled breathing with mild to severe pricking pain at heart.

Women have more stroke risk factors:

Though women do not report stroke symptoms as men do, it has been reported that the symptoms of stroke in women at the age group 45 to 55 have been more than those associated to men. The consistent risk factors accountable for the higher rate of stroke symptoms in women are as hereunder:

  • high blood pressure

  • high cholesterol

  • Plaque (A deposit of fatty material on the inner lining of an arterial wall)

  • Clogged arteries channelized to the brain

  • Lack of poor physical exercise leading to increased tummy fat

What makes worrying with the attitude of women is that around 40% of women have poor knowledge about healthy condition of blood pressure and cholesterol levels. The more serious thing to make reference is the health practitioner’s underestimation of such risk factors of stroke for women.

What is the safe measure?

The more awareness women have about the warning signs and symptoms of stroke, the more chance will be for them to keep healthy and avoid health risks. That way, right and timely treatment can be preferred as a safety end against strokes in women.
