Myth 1 – Heart attack deaths only happen among the elderly population. Mortality cases due to heart attack do not occur to those 35 years of age and below. Old age is known as a positive warning sign. The elderly automatically get drafted into a list of those that could be afflicted by this acute condition.

Fact 1 – This is totally false as there have been countless reports throughout the years concerning victims of heart attacks who are well below 35 years old. The incidents make up for a small percentage (11 percent only) however it is possible and it does occur. The same reasons that plague older victims hold true as well for those who had heart attacks below 35 years old. It is also important to note that there is a steady increase of heart attack cases among younger individuals throughout the years (from 8 percent five years ago). The notion of 28 and 31 year olds being safe from this should be eliminated so that proper care and preventive measures can be taken to minimize the risk of developing heart attack.

Myth 2 – Very intense chest pains are found in all cases of heart attack. The strong, stabbing chest pains are considered as standard symptoms for a condition to be considered a heart attack.

Fact 2– There have been numerous documented cases of heart attack victims who did experience minimal chest pains to no sensation of pain prior to attack. The intensity of the pain varies from individual to individual and in rare cases, victims are not forewarned with usual heart attacks signs and symptoms at all. Some cases note that some people would perceive the minimal pain as indigestion and only find out that it was a mild heart attack after being provided with treatment and medication.

Myth 3 - A person with a frequently fluctuating heart rate is most susceptible to developing cardiovascular problems, especially heart attacks (a solid warning sign). A person who has heart arrhythmia was most likely to have a heart attack if not treated.

Fact 3 – Those with irregular heart beats do have a risk of cardiovascular disease exacerbations and heart complications. They would need to be double-checked to ensure that they understand the health measures that should be taken to prevent any incidence of heart attack in the future. This however is not an absolute warning sign as there have been reports of victims who did not report heart beat irregularities or history of arrhythmia. Irregular heartbeats may be present in some heart attack (even most) cases but it is not a sure sign that a heart attack or even heart problems is its primary cause.

Myth 4 – It is only the overweight and obese individuals who are at risk of heart attacks. Weight is a positive warning sign. Slim or thin individuals who exercise a lot are not in any way at risk of heart attack.

Fact 4 – It is important to note that heart attacks are more common among overweight people than those who are not. This fact however, does not exclude those who are thin and people who seem to be physically fit and healthy. Heart attack may strike any person regardless of body type and level of physical activity. It is best to routinely schedule general health check-ups and consume food items which are proven to be ideal in the prevention of heart diseases and obesity. A healthy weight loss regimen and diet are good preventive measures which both slim and heavy individuals need to adhere to in order to reduce their chance of developing heart disease conditions which eventually lead to heart attack.

Myth 5 – It is only an amusing myth that red wine can assist with heart health matters and reduce the occurrence and development of heart attack.

Fact 5 – Red wine is proven to be more than able to aid in good heart maintenance as it contains powerful antioxidants. The antioxidants found in red wine are beneficial to prevent deterioration and damage of myocardial cells. Wine has been scientifically proven to lower bad cholesterol and increase good cholesterol levels efficiently which in turn greatly reduce risk of heart disease. It is important to note that moderation in the consumption of red wine is the key to using it as medicinal tool. Health benefits are developed if individuals drink one to two standard wine glasses a day.

The risk for heart attacks may be reduced. For those, who would want to be at a safe distance from this heart disease, it is important to understand the difference between useful health information and which sets of information are complete fallacies. By understanding these warning signs better and more efficiently, people can best decide how they would go about avoiding this terrible ailment.
